Greetings! We spent the last week in McGrath at the district inservice, meeting everyone and learning all about Iditarod Area School District. A little data: We lived in McGrath 18 years ago and it was great to see old friends! The school district has approximately 174 students in seven villages. Most schools have two to five teachers. Grayling is now one of the biggest schools with about 40 students. It’s quite a deal to hold a district inserivce up here. That meant chartering planes to pick up people; mostly on Cessna 207’s. The views from the plane are works of art (imagine views like these for more than an hour)…
Friday night we flew back after getting some groceries at the AC store. School begins on Wednesday so we’ve been busy getting ready–hence the delay on the blog updates. When we walked to school this morning–no mosquitoes because it was…
about 32 degrees. It warmed up to be a beautiful 65 degree day. This bike was parked right by the school. We waited until 9:05, but nobody else showed up.
We took it as a sign–not to ride, but to break out the pretzels and coffee/tea.
This evening, Bre and Jared were nice enough to invite us over for dinner; chicken and wild rice soup, fresh bread and salad! Delicious!
With us, that’s all the certificated staff. We’re looking forward to a great year working with them and the people in the community. Hans is two for two on putting Sophie Louise to sleep,
and that’s where we’re headed now….
because tomorrow’s another day.
