Coming Soon to a Theater Near You (maybe)

According to Alaska Dispatch, On the Ice opened this weekend in Anchorage, Fairbanks and New York. The movie, filmed in Barrow, Alaska, has been shown at various film festivals over the past year and won awards. Thanks to a successful fundraising project, you may be able to see it soon (if you missed it at the Sundance Film Festival last year). Watch the trailer on Alaska Dispatch and also the 15 minute short film, “Sikumi”, that the full-length movie was based on and see what you think.

How often do you get the chance to watch a movie about the Arctic that’s filmed on location, produced by and starring Inupiaq people; providing a “self” perspective rather than someone else’s view…  We can’t wait to see it.

  1. This film will be at the Uptown in Seattle on March 2 (as part of the SIFF).
